Small, Odd, "Hidden", Important Environmental Election in King County this Tuesday

VOTE FOR Max Prinsen for King County Conservation District. Click on "FULL STORY" link below for a list of the polling locations
King County Conservation District is holding a "hidden election" tomorrow -- Tuesday, 2/13/07. There are no absentee ballots, no provisionals. You have to go to the polling place to vote.  Last June I interviewed Rose Ehart, who won in Pierce County's version of this race.  You can read that inteview here: Conversation with Rose Ehart and scope out how odd these elections are.

The incumbent up for re-election is Mark Livengood, endorsed by property rights advocates. As reflected in their championing of I-933 last year, the property rights movement pushes individual rights in isolation from the rights and welfare of the whole and advocates for the repeal of legal protections against sprawl, pollution, and environmental harm. Livengood is being challenged by Max Prinsen, a past Chair of the Conservation Board and current President of SHADOW (Save Habitat and Diversity of Wetlands) -- as well as a member of Washington Conservation Voters and the Cedar River Council. Prinsen is endorsed by Washington Conservation Voters. If you live in King County, you can vote in this election, but you have to go to a polling place. Please do -- and please vote for Max Prinsen. Typically, fewer than 1,000 vote in these elections. The last election result was determined by a difference of about 200 votes. Polling locations are open from 11:00 am to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday February 13,  2007. Click on the "FULL STORY" link below for the list of polling places.

Wow. Noemie, I apologize. I hadn't read your interview with Rose Ehart. I have no excuses.

    That's a fantastic interview.

Ehart is a leader. Her beliefs and vision are spot on. Her criticisms are constructive. She's incredibly articulate.

And even though I'm no longer a believer, Ehart presents the view of Jesus, God, and Christianity that I was taught and had believed in. (I'm half-tempted to find her church and start attending, just to be around some Christians that don't piss me off. Maybe restore a bit of my lost faith.)

I really hope that Rose Ehart goes for higher office. Assuming she walks the talk, I'd support her in a heartbeat.

I googled a bit for Mark Livengood. Nada.

I read his candidacy statement. He sounds reasonable.

The KC GOP endorsed Mark Livengood. Which is reason enough to vote for Max Prinsen.

I had no awareness of this election until this week. What kind of democracy is that? I'm truly befuddled.

I just called the KC Conservation District office and was told that the results have not been certified and may not be for a couple of weeks.  Preliminary results look like Livengood  has won, with 700-something votes counted to Prinsen's 300-something.
