Well, that was a frustrating project! Do you know that there is at this point no single location with information about who our County Councilmembers are, what party they are from, and when they are up for reelection?
There still isn't, but I'm working on it. Here's the current map:
County Status, 2006
More below the fold...
You would think that the
Washington Association of Counties would list all of the County Councilmembers. No. At least not on all of them. And the
National Association of Counties does not list party affiliation, nor have they updated their list since the 2006 elections. (Only King County and Snohomish County have County elections in the Odd years. Everyone else has elections alongside the Legislative elections.)
So I had to do a search for election results, and not even that is consistent. For several counties, I had to search for individual names and base my determination on whether they were members of the local Democratic Party, or at least mentioned favorably on some of our local Dem websites. Some county auditors, and entire counties, don't even have websites, meaning the results are based on newspapers and the Secretary of State's office. VoteWashington.org is another good source of information and links, hosted by Hewitt Consulting, based in Centralia.
But we're at least up to date on who has the majority. I'm still finishing up my collection of names and parties on some of the individual county pages. I'll continue to work on this, alongside the other infrastructure inventory project that I mentioned.
