Feedback to Gov: Pro-Fair Share - Few, Anti - Many

I know it's a little tough to set aside our disappointment on the timing, but it IS important that the Governor get lots of "thank you" messages for her pledge to pass a version of fair share legislation in 2007.

Not for her sake necessarily, but for ours. A bunch of us worked hard to get a top leader to make a commitment on fair share health care. The Governor pledged to move a bill next year. She's getting plenty of flak - got that first hand from top aides - and very little support ... YET.

We want to cement this commitment from the Governor ASAP, so please do all you can to generate lots of positive reinforcement for Chris Gregoire.

Just to recap - according to the Associated Press:

Gov. Chris Gregoire pledged Thursday [2/16] to pass a "perfected" bill next year mandating health care coverage by large employers, just days after a version aimed squarely at Wal-Mart died at the Legislature. Speaking at a meeting of
organized labor groups, Gregoire promised to work out details that apparently led the state House's top Democrat to block the measure this year.

"If we didn't get it this year, we're going to get it next year. Let's work together to make it happen," she said to thunderous applause from members of the Washington State Labor Council.

Gregoire also said: "There are a lot of really good employers who want this done and have reached out to me and said, 'We need to make this happen. We need a level playing field in the state of Washington."

"I want to make sure that goal is achieved," she said.
