Is Joel Connelly Full O' Crap?

Hopefully, someone here can help me understand what the f Connelly is writing of here?

One more factor: What will Democrats offer the country this fall, and how will the party heal its own splits -- particularly over the Iraq war?

Divisions? Look around.

Anti-war pickets greeted Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., the Democrats' presidential front-runner, when Clinton made a recent fund-raising swing through Seattle and Portland.

A hero to the party's anti-war left, fiery controversial Democratic National Chairman Howard Dean spoke to 1,200 people in Olympia at the Democrats' annual crab feed Monday night.

Gov. Christine Gregoire's aides expended a bit of energy figuring ways to assure that their boss was NOT photographed with Dean.

The governor did greet Dean, in the safety of a private reception.

Is this accurate?  Did Gregoire avoid being photographed with Dean?  If so, why?

Somebody throw me a frickin' bone here....I can't understand why the good governor would work to disassociate herself with the chair of her own national party.  Is she a DLCer?  I have much respect for what she and the legislature are doing in Washington State right now, and this is a minor quibble.  It wouldn't bug me so much if Drudge wasn't linking to Connelly's column with the verbiage "Washington Governor Avoids Howard Dean!"

The remainder of Connelly's column is a fair to middlin analysis of the troubles Democrats will have in taking the House in 2006 and the likelihood that Democrats will hang the albatross of corruption around the necks of incumbent Republicans in an attempt to unseat them.  Nothin' new on that front.

Just because it's in a gossip column doesn't mean its true.

Remember, Joel Connelly hates Howard Dean with a passion.  Also, lots of elected officials have qualms about who they get pictured with.  It's an old political chestnut.

For some reason, Howard Dean occupies a special, highly negative, place in the mindset of Joel Connelly.  Connelly never fails to pass up an opportunity to derogate Dean.  Indeed, he goes out of his way to create such opportunities.

That's what this blurb was.  It had nothing whatsoever to do with Gregoire or her aides ... it was entirely a gratuitously ineffectual slap at Howard Dean.

But I would point out that the Gov got 50%+ of the vote, in a close election and that she is no DNCer but is not going to be quick to become a poster child for the national party when she needs the independant voter at reelection time.

when Howard came to Town Hall and caught the city on fire -

Connelly was in the "he's not electable" camp of pragmatists and realists,

of course, "we" all knew a war hero is Electable ...

gag, choke ... HA HA HA!

Connelly outta knock off the sauce - he's fixated about the good old days when Skippy and Scoop and all the other big wigs got together at 3:00 to knock back some Kentucky special and cut the deals. Those were the days ... yawn.

Those were also the days when the current crop of Dem-O-Losers cut their political gums selling out to the thugs on the mush of bipartisan-sh&* and similarly sugared political oatmeals.

Connelly is afeard of the looney left of Dems - and there are loonies who think the whole economy can be based on trading organic tofu and hair shirts -
BUT, these loonies have never really had an impact on the Dem party -

what has had an impact is the Connelly's telling everybody that the loonies are gonna run the show, and then the loonies will scare the middle, and then the Dems will lose - so we better have some moderate and electable, like Dukakis ...

oops, Cantwell.

They hate him with a passion.

The only reason he is Chair is that they were so incompetent they couldn't come up with a consensus candidate.

Comrade Pelz is probably one of the few State Chairs who were self-identified Dean supporters. There is no question that there are two distinct power centers in the party. One is Reid, Clinton and now probably Schumer and the other is Dean. And Dean is definitely weaker. Gregoire did everything she could to disassociate herself with Deaniacs, as the Kerry campaign did.

What's surprising about her behavior? She's afraid of conservative critics.
