I am running for State Senate in the 44th

I am running for State Senate in the 44th.

Monday night's crabfest was a blast.  I attended the PCO training with Dr. Domke who was fantastic.  If you get a chance to watch him in action, go!.  Anyway, I am eating dinner, minding my own business when people come up to me and ask "so when are you going to run"?  We chatted some more and I decided then and there.  "I am going to run NOW"!

I want to run because I believe healthcare is a right and not a priviledge.  I believe we must attract living wage jobs and preserve our right to organize.  We must assist our children to be educated either through college or an apprenticeship or trade program.  I believe women have a right to privacy and the best way to reduce abortion is through comprehensive sexual education and access to contraception. I believe in Responsible Development while protecting our natural environment.

I hope everyone in the 44th and the State Party will get behind me and help me join our Washington Democrats to move our progressive agenda forward and leave the negative, free-trade Republicans behind.  Let's have faith in our citizens to believe that we are the party of the people and will represent their interests before big business.  I look forward to meeting you all out on the campaign trail and I hope you will vote for me.  Lillian Kaufer for State Senate. (D).

Sorry, I didn't even think of adding more info.  I was a paralegal for over 12 years working in Personal Injury and mostly corporate law.  Mergers and aquisitions, IPO's etc.  In 1992 My husband and I started our own business and I eventually was able to stay home to rais my two girls.  I have been active in politics since 2002 by doorbelling, signwaiving, phone banking etc.  I am PCO and have worked on local campaigns and initiatives.  I don't have a webpage yet but hope to by next week.  I can be reached at lillianforsenate@comcast.net.  I hope this answered your questions.  Please ask if there is anything else.

. . . the following information would be of interest:

  • Who is your current State Senator? R or D? Are they retiring, or running as an incumbent?

  • How will you be differentiating yourself from that person?

  • Who else is running, and how will you differentiate yourself from those people?

I am running against Republican Dave Schmidt.  I would not be running if a dem was in my seat, I would be out working for them.  I am also running against Steve Hobbs in the Primary.  Steve is a good guy and an Iraq vet but I don't think he has the charisma to beat me or Schmidt (A retired pastor).  I believe I connect better in public speaking than he has.  Making personal attacks on schmidt's personal life is not going to win this seat.  It will need to be won on the issues.  Healthcare, Education, Economic Development.  Schmidt passes himself off as a moderate but he is very socially conservative.  I will be challenging him on his votes against spending on mental health pairity, senior services, education etc.  His voting history is pretty much moderate to very strong business.  He has 100% with the Bus. lobby.  I am pro buisness (a business owner myself) but I would like to see RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS.  Living wage jobs, health coverage aka Fair Share, Responsnible Devlopment aka not letting the Builders lobby rape our lands any more than they already have.  Transportation to support the growth that has been occuring and of course affordable housing.

I hope I answered your questions.  Let me know if there is anything else.  Lillian
