James Woolsey loves to talk about oil and national security. He's been on the rounds with his flashy presentation for four months now, touting the ethanol and biodiesel solutions to our oil dependent society. I've heard him speak and was very impressed by his PowerPoint skills, but he's missing a critical piece to our national security: the fact that these fuel prices are hurting our schools more than "No Child Left Behind".

National security (and patriotism for that matter) depends completely on the people it's protecting. A real energy strategy will begin with our communities - what they have to offer and what their greatest needs are - then the energy sources would flow upwards, eventually helping out the military. We need to take a clear look at where our energy resources are being spent and how much more value we could get out of them with a little house cleaning. The bottom line however, is that neither ethanol, biodiesel, hydrogen, or wonderfuel will ever meet the incredible demands from our country and the rest of the world.
