Just a quickie on the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's Crony of the Week award. This time it goes to Dave Reichert.
I've been stung by the DCCC before with information that wasn't so accurate. This time they're on the dime as far as I can tell. Their Crony of the Week info is, I know from my recent immersion in Reichert's record, reliable. I see no "gotchas" here -- small technical votes that don't reflect the candidate's real positions. This is an accurate depiction of Mr. Reichert's membership in the DC Club Republican that is despoiling our environment, wrecking our economy, corrupting governance, and keeping us mired in a morally bankrupt war.
Our Congressman markets himself as a moderate and an environmentalist. But I trust RepAmerica -- a Republican pro-environment group, that tells us that actually, Reichert's not so great on that issue. (Funny that I trust this Republican group and I don't trust the DCCC -- and I'm a Democrat. Go figure!) Anyway, check out RepAmerica's 2005 Congressional Scorecard
In my doorbelling last weekend, I met an older couple who told me they always vote the candidate instead of the party. Over time, they've come to conclude that George Bush has not been honest with us and they don't even like to hear him speak anymore. And they've decided that, although Mr. Reichert was a very good Sheriff, he was probably "in above his head" in DC, not really equipped to withstand the level of corruption there. This is the kind of feedback I'm hearing 'on the street' about Mr. Reichert. And I am feeling some hope that the wisdom of the voters is re-asserting itself over the noise of the Republican machine.
