Homeland Security in Boise= no stickers on your vehicle

Idaho is my home state and I've always got a soft spot for stuff going on there.

The following published in the Boise Weekly

Red State, Meet Police State

A federal employee gets hassled by Homeland Security for antiwar stickers on his car. Is it a mistake, a new rule, or the part of a trend of the First Amendment being bullied out of existence? Read the transcript, read the rules and decide for yourself

[Exerpt from the transcript of discussion between DHS officer and Mr. Scarborough]

Officer: Step back here please.

Dwight Scarbrough: Let's have a seat.

O: I'd like to talk to you.

DS: Let's have a seat.

O: Sir, come over here please.

DS: I don't want to come over there. I want to sit down.

O: Let me tell you what's going on here. OK, there's a violation of the code of federal regulations.

DS: For what?

O: The CFR. 41, CFR, 102, 74, 415. Posting or affixing signs, pamphlets, handbills or flyers on federal property. Do you understand that?

DS: I'm not doing anything on federal property.

O: Yes, sir, you've got signs posted on your vehicle. I'm informing you that you're in violation.

DS: That's not illegal. That's not illegal.

Not to ridicule some guy who probably is just trying to do his job, but when a DHS agent throws all that "sir" stuff around wearing his arm patch, suit and sunglasses or whatever, he not only looks silly - he is silly.

Not his fault ... but a great argument for encouraging sympathy for federal agents forced to act as agents of the Republican Party.

Can't you just see the local DHS headquarters in Boise?

GIC (Guy-in-charge): "Hey, Bud, get yer ass over there where that truck sticker guy works.

We just got orders from DC that some local church-goer patriots have their knickers bunched cause the guy's smacking Bush again."

Bud: "What? You talking about Scarborough? Aw ... mannnnnn! He ain't hurtin anybody.

GIC: Just do what yer told Bud.

Bud: Oh yeah ... easy for you to say. I got to go there lookin like every government-agent villain in every political thriller movie. Only instead of  hiding on the roof snipering or bashing down doors yelling FREEZE, I got to stand there like a doofus and tell Scarborough he's in violation of The CFR. 41, CFR, 102, 74, 415. Posting or affixing signs, pamphlets, handbills or flyers on federal property.

You know that's bullshit.

GIC: Might be bullshit son, but it's the bullshit from on high and if your heart beats faster when you think about loving your country and getting paid to do so, you gotta pass the crap on whether you like it or not.
