Local diary rescue from Kos

Our own lapin (who I wish would drop in our environs from time to time, ya know...) had his own diary rescued in tonight's Kos open thread.  It's a good read about an interesting situation in Olympia.  I've got a suspicion my opinions on the whole thing, which are complex and not worth going into (plus I'm tired and want to go to bed), would infuriate some folks here, but I think it's good that these things happen, and I'm happy local folks are reporting it.

For those who missed it, mcjoan posted a diary about her brother-in-law Jim, who lost his battle with cancer last week.  It's off the reco list, but you MUST stop in, read it, and leave your love for our mcjoan.

nudger gives us some Spokane news on Peter Goldmark from Monday which is short but worth the read.  Apparently Goldmark rode a horse into Spokane, which I love!  :-)

There's more stuff out there, and I'll comb through periodically so you non-Kossacks don't miss the good ones (and I'm trying to recruit Washington Kossacks over to Washblog, natch...).

Feel free to hijack this thread to talk about stuff, call me an ass, discuss the other hijacked thread about injecting a little more fun into Washblog...you know, whatever.  Have some freakin' fun.

... and liveblogging the shows as time permits.

Al Gore will be on today. (OK, Gore will be on everywhere today, as "Inconvenient Truth" opens in nationwide distribution ... but he will be on live with Jim on KIRO.)

Gotta say, it's been some good radio with great diversity of topics, guests, opinions.

The state Dem convention will be my first encounter with that fair(?) city, and, I admit, my first venture into the wilds of the East after 10 years in WA.

To celebrate the occasion, I've designed a headpiece decorated with the symbols of of our state. And before you tell me that's dumb, a stranger approached me at the KC convention and said she was disappointed I was NOT wearing a headpiece. Seems I have a rep to maintain.

I researched the subject and found that the state flower is the ubiquitous rhododendron; bird is the willow goldfinch--I've never seen one, but not into birding--fruit is, of course, the apple.

Fish is the steelhead trout (like a rainbow, but sea-going); marine mammal is the orca; insect is the dragonfly.

Did you know we have a state FOSSIL? It's the mammoth! Never been lucky enough to stumble across the remains of one.

State grass (state GRASS?!) is the bluebunch wheatgrass, ya know. Whatever that is. Sounds like an allergen to me.

Our state gemstone is petrified wood, which is cheating because that's not a gemstone at all. But I digress.

Wearing this unique piece of art drenched in state lore (without the mammoth, orca, or petrified wood, though) I hope to lure the Governor into a photograph.

Pics will be posted on Sunday.

Don't worry, I lurk here regularly and love this place.  Helps me get info that can be had nowhere else.
